Our Philosophy
Combining our financial savvy with our wealth management capabilities and risk management experience, we help clients plan for their future and maintain financial independence. By using The Seasons FORMula™, we are able to design custom financial strategies that address each of our clients’ specific needs.
At WealthPlan Advisors Group we recognize that we are not all things to all people, nor do we want or expect to be. We are all things to some people. Our client relationships are based on a very specific FIT process, allowing us to partner with those clients to whom we are most suited.
Our philosophy is one of stewardship, not salesmanship - building relationships, not generating revenue. As Independent Advisors, we work for our clients, not our firm.
Our goal is to help you implement a plan with multiple strategies to reduce risk for all possible outcomes, without apprehension. There is no “one size fits all” solution when it comes to planning for your future. And because we’re an independent firm, we’re under no obligation to sell proprietary products or services. That means we’re objective and selective, offering only those investment products and services we believe are best suited to help meet your financial goals.
We offer you timely investment advice with the highest level of integrity, dedication, objectivity and professionalism.
The general principles of my overall philosophy of investment advice…
- It is goal-focused and planning-driven, as sharply distinguished from an approach that is market-focused and current-events-driven. Every successful investor I've ever known was acting continuously on a plan; failed investors, in my experience, get that way by reacting to current events in the economy and the markets.
- I neither forecast the economy, nor attempt to time the markets, nor predict which market sectors will “outperform” which others over the next block of time. In a sentence that always bears repeating: I'm a planner rather than a prognosticator.
- Once a client family and I have a plan in place—and have funded it with what have historically been the most appropriate types of investments—I'll hardly ever recommend changing the portfolio so long as your long-term goals haven't changed. As a general statement, I've found that the more often investors change their portfolios (in response to the market fears or fads of the moment), the worse their long-term results.
- In sum, my essential principles of portfolio management are fourfold. (1) The performance of a portfolio relative to a benchmark is largely irrelevant to long-term financial success. (2) The only benchmark we should care about is the one that indicates whether you are on track to accomplish your financial goals. (3) Risk should be measured as the probability that you won't achieve your goals. (4) Investing should have the exclusive objective of minimizing that risk.
When it comes to investing, at WealthPlan Advisors Group we use the analogy of a tree….
You plant it in the earth and a wonderful force of nature causes it to take root and to grow. You don't have to do much with it, the air and the water and the nutrients it needs are all around the tree, and it knows how to use them.
You don't dig it up every 90 days to check on the progress. (Nothing much will have changed in that brief time, and you might harm the tree). You don't uproot the tree and store it in your garage over the winter to protect it from what you regard as “bad weather”. (Though its leaves fall and it stops growing for a season, the tree itself does not die. And even leafless, the tree is still producing oxygen without which you and I could not live).
Give the tree enough room, enough light, and enough time. Then leave it pretty much alone. It will give you back air and shade and beauty as it grows - and will be will go on doing so for your children, after you're gone.
That's what investing is like - if you let it be. Wealth is no less organic than that tree.
One of our primary goals is to develop a long-term, trusting relationship with you.
